The Nissan Silvia Turbo R-X.G is the flagship luxury specification S12, loaded with features and technology not found on any other model in the S12 lineup. The R-X.G was available as a Coupe or Hatchback model shape and was equipped with the single cam CA18ET engine, ensuring the model didn't step on the toes of Nissan's flagship performance model, the Turbo RS-X. Nissan was proud of all the electronic additions to the R-X.G's luxury specification, proudly claiming a number of world firsts with their technology. The fitting of an electronic sunroof with tilt and retract was a first for such technology fitted to a production car in Japan. Retractable headlights fitted with a washer & wiper combination, an electric multi-adjustable seat, and the unique Power Woofer sound system were all claimed to be world firsts!

The R-X.G model was more prominently promoted and displayed under the Gazelle badge in Japan, attracting far more media and page space in Gazelle advertising material than the Silvia equivalent. Under the Silvia badge, the Turbo RS-X remained the flagship of the brand, the ultimate performance sports car. However under the Gazelle badge, the luxurious appeal and advanced technology of the R-X.G had it sharing the same spotlight as the high performance Turbo RS-X.
